Streets of Miami

Streets of Miami was the informal name of an intermittent series of street circuit auto racing events set up in the Miami-South Florida metropolitan area area. Rather than hold these events in a stadium, various surface streets were cordoned off to be used as a race track.

Locations used for "streets of Miami" events include:

  • Tamiami Park (CART, 1985-1988)
  • Bicentennial Park (IMSA, 1986-1993; Trans-Am, 1994; CART, 1995)
  • Bayfront Park (IMSA 1983-1985; ALMS/CART, 2002-2003)

One episode of the television show Miami Vice ("Florence Italy") centered on a race car driver accused of murdering a prostitute. The episode featured some short outdoor scenes in the pit lanes of the Miami Grand Prix.

Famous quotes containing the word streets:

“I took a good deal o’ pains with his eddication, sir; let him run in the streets when he was wery young, and shift for his-self. It’s the only way to make a boy sharp, sir.”
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)
