Strathspey & Badenoch Welfare FA - Clubs

Clubs

Member club numbers tend to fluctuate from season to season, with the most recent notable extinctions being Boat of Garten F.C., Kingussie F.C. and Carrbridge F.C. The 2013 season is being competed for by the following clubs:

Aviemore Thistle
One of two sides based at the village of Aviemore, Thistle share their home park with local rivals RBL Aviemore. Thistle underwent a rebirth at the end of 2007 when the club almost went extinct, but the name and colours were saved at the 11th hour and a Jags side was successfully fielded for the 2008 season.
Cromdale
Cromdale recently returned to the SBWFA after being unable to field a side in the 2009 season.
Grantown United
Grantown Utd reformed for the 2013 season, having previously played in the SBWFA for several years. They were the last winners of the old SBWFA championship shield.
RBL Aviemore
RBL are Aviemore's other Welfare club. The RBL part stands for Royal British Legion and, unsurprisingly, the local Legion is the club's base. RBL won their first ever League title in 2009.
Strathspey Thistle Colts
This is a team formed for the 2010 season, made up of Under 19 players from Strathspey Thistle FC of the Highland League. They romped to the title in 2010 but struggled the following year.
Tomatin United
United were formed by a group of Tomatin FC (now an Inverness Welfare FA side) players unable to get a regular game for the club due to its impressive squad. In 2011 they finished outside the bottom 2 for the first time since joining the SBWFA..

Famous quotes containing the word clubs:

Women realize that we are living in an ungoverned world. At heart we are all pacifists. We should love to talk it over with the war-makers, but they would not understand. Words are so inadequate, and we realize that the hatred must kill itself; so we give our men gladly, unselfishly, proudly, patriotically, since the world chooses to settle its disputes in the old barbarous way.
—General Federation Of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)

The true reformer does not want time, nor money, nor coöperation, nor advice. What is time but the stuff delay is made of? And depend upon it, our virtue will not live on the interest of our money. He expects no income, but outgoes; so soon as we begin to count the cost, the cost begins. And as for advice, the information floating in the atmosphere of society is as evanescent and unserviceable to him as gossamer for clubs of Hercules.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    As night returns bringing doubts
That swarm around the sleeper’s head
But are fended off with clubs and knives ...
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
