Stratford On Avon and Broadway Railway - Dissolution

Dissolution

On 14 February 2010 the Stratford on Avon and Broadway Railway Society (1999) Limited was dissolved because "...with little chance of opening the line between Stratford and Honeybourne within the next 10 years and the fewer volunteers, we only had two choices: find a new home or sell the stock". The Stratford on Avon and Broadway Railway Trust (a separate body) still exists.

It was envisaged that the rolling stock would be moved to the Berkeley Vale Railway which plans to use the Sharpness Branch Line. This plan did not come to fruition so an alternative plan was devised. Some of the stock will be sold and the remainder will be loaned to other railway societies. The Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust took delivery of two ex-Navy goods vans and a two-car diesel multiple unit on loan in October/November 2011.

The SBR website still exists (October 2012) but it is seriously out-of-date and makes no mention of these developments.

Famous quotes containing the word dissolution:

    We are threatened with suffering from three directions: from our own body, which is doomed to decay and dissolution and which cannot even do without pain and anxiety as warning signals; from the external world, which may rage against us with overwhelming and merciless forces of destruction; and finally from our relations to other men. The suffering which comes from this last source is perhaps more painful than any other.
    Sigmund Freud (1856–1939)

    From low to high doth dissolution climb,
    And sink from high to low, along a scale
    Of awful notes, whose concord shall not fail;
    William Wordsworth (1770–1850)

    The most dangerous aspect of present-day life is the dissolution of the feeling of individual responsibility. Mass solitude has done away with any difference between the internal and the external, between the intellectual and the physical.
    Eugenio Montale (1896–1981)
