The I Count Campaign
The I Count campaign aimed to ensure that world leaders act on rising global greenhouse gas emissions in order to keep average global temperature increase to under 2° C (3.6 °F) and so avoiding the more serious consequences of global warming.
In 2006 the campaign focussed on the lead up to the Queen's speech, urging the Government to introduce a Climate Change Bill in the forthcoming Parliamentary session - including legally binding cuts in emissions (3% per year and 50% by 2050), and an annual carbon budget.
The campaign then focussed on the specifics of the Climate Change Bill with three clear demands for inclusion in the bill:
- A target of 80% reduction in emissions by 2050
- Yearly targets for emissions reductions
- Aviation and shipping to be included in the emissions targets
All of the campaign demands were met and contributed to the UK's Climate Change Act 2008, a world-first.

Famous quotes containing the words the i, count and/or campaign:
“... the school should be an appendage of the family state, and modeled on its primary principle, which is, to train the ignorant and weak by self-sacrificing labor and love; and to bestow the most on the weakest, the most undeveloped, and the most sinful.”
—Catherine E. Beecher (18001878)
“The greatest waste of time he knew of was to count the hourswhat good can come of it?and the greatest illusion in the world, to lead ones day by the sound of the clock, and not by precepts of common sense and understanding.”
—François Rabelais (14941553)
“The fact that a man is to vote forces him to think. You may preach to a congregation by the year and not affect its thought because it is not called upon for definite action. But throw your subject into a campaign and it becomes a challenge.”
—John Jay Chapman (18621933)
