Wagner House

Wagner purchased the property in 1886, and built the house in 1890. The house was designed in the Italianate Victorian style by architect Charles D'Ebro. The house was named for the birthplace of Wagner's wife, Mary, in Stonington, Connecticut, USA. Wagner and his family lived in the house until his death in 1901.

Famous quotes containing the words wagner and/or house:

Well then! Wagner was a revolutionary—he fled the Germans.... As an artist one has no home in Europe outside Paris: the délicatesse in all five artistic senses that is presupposed by Wagner’s art, the fingers for nuances, the psychological morbidity are found only in Paris. Nowhere else is this passion in questions of form to be found, this seriousness in mise en scène—which is Parisian seriousness par excellence.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

A house is a machine for living in.
Le Corbusier [Charle Édouard Jeanne] (1887–1965)
