Steve Beuerlein - High School Career

High School Career

In his senior year, Beuerlein led Anaheim's Servite High School to the California Interscholastic Federation 1982 Big Five state championship, where he was named player of the year, and displayed all the skills and leadership of a major-college quarterback recruit. In the first game of the year he played against Ohio's famed Moeller High School. Although Servite led Moeller early in the 4th quarter, Moeller won 29-15, but Beuerlein's performance caught the eye of Notre Dame head coach Gerry Faust, who had coached for 18 years at Moeller prior to taking the Notre Dame job. After Servite went on to win its final eleven games en route to a 31-7 victory over Long Beach Poly in the state championship game (and a #4 national ranking), Faust offered Beuerlein a full scholarship, and he attended Notre Dame the following year.

Famous quotes containing the words high, school and/or career:

    I’ll walk, but not in old heroic traces,
    And not in paths of high morality,
    And not among the half-distinguished faces,
    The clouded forms of long-past history.
    Emily Brontë (1818–1848)

    Their school a crowd, his master solitude;
    Through Jonathan Swift’s dark grove he passed, and there
    Plucked bitter wisdom that enriched his blood.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    He was at a starting point which makes many a man’s career a fine subject for betting, if there were any gentlemen given to that amusement who could appreciate the complicated probabilities of an arduous purpose, with all the possible thwartings and furtherings of circumstance, all the niceties of inward balance, by which a man swings and makes his point or else is carried headlong.
    George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
