"Steppin' in a Slide Zone" is a 1978 single by the English progressive rock band The Moody Blues. It was the first single The Moody Blues had released in five years, after the band's temporary hiatus. It was written by bassist John Lodge, and was released a month later on the album Octave.
One of the most noticeable differences in the band's sound after this hiatus was the fact that the Mellotron and Chamberlin (a similar instrument to the Mellotron) had been replaced with the more widely used synthesizer, and "Steppin' In a Slide Zone" was the first of their singles to use the synthesizer. The synthesizer would ultimately give The Moody Blues a more electronic sound which departed from the more symphonic sound of their past career.

Famous quotes containing the words slide and/or zone:
“George Shears ... was hanged in a barn near the store. The rope was thrown over a beam, and he was asked to walk up a ladder to save the trouble of preparing a drop for him. Gentlemen, he said, I am not used to this business. Shall I jump off or slide off? He was told to jump.”
—For the State of Montana, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“There was a continuous movement now, from Zone Five to Zone Four. And from Zone Four to Zone Three, and from us, up the pass. There was a lightness, a freshness, and an enquiry and a remaking and an inspiration where there had been only stagnation. And closed frontiers. For this is how we all see it now.”
—Doris Lessing (b. 1919)
