Stephanie Roper Murder - Advancement To Justice

Advancement To Justice

The Roper family was excluded from observing the trial and was denied the right to present a victim impact statement at sentencing. These factors caused public outrage. In life, Stephanie was a beautiful and talented artist. Her mother, Roberta Roper, has taken on the cause of victims’ rights, including the right of victims' families to address the court before sentencing. She actively lobbies and advocates for rights and support services to crime victims and their survivors. She and her husband, Vincent, formed the Stephanie Roper Committee and Foundation, Inc. and she served as its Executive Director for 20 years. The agency is now known as the Maryland Crime Victims' Resource Center, Inc. (MCVRC). Roberta Roper has dedicated her life to these causes. Today she serves as the Chair of the MCVRC Board of Directors and co-chairs the National Victims' Constitutional Amendment Network.

Famous quotes containing the words advancement and/or justice:

The path of social advancement is, and must be, strewn with broken friendships.
    —H.G. (Herbert George)

The state does not demand justice of its members, but thinks that it succeeds very well with the least degree of it, hardly more than rogues practice; and so do the neighborhood and the family. What is commonly called Friendship even is only a little more honor among rogues.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
