Steer Wrestling

Steer wrestling, also known as bulldogging, is a rodeo event in which a horse-mounted rider chases a steer, drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by twisting its horns. Like all rodeo events, there are concerns from the animal rights community that the competition may include practices that constitute cruelty to animals. The event also carries a high risk of injury to the cowboy.

Famous quotes containing the words steer and/or wrestling:

I steer my bark with Hope in the head, leaving Fear astern.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

There are people who think that wrestling is an ignoble sport. Wrestling is not sport, it is a spectacle, and it is no more ignoble to attend a wrestled performance of suffering than a performance of the sorrows of Arnolphe or Andromaque.
    Roland Barthes (1915–1980)
