Shape
The staveless runes may appear hard to recognize at first glance, but the only difference between them and and the preceding Younger Futhark is — in fact — their omission of main staves. If main staves are added, it is apparent that the a, n, t, l and s runes are identical to their staved predecessors. No ã rune has been found in inscriptions, but it has been postulated that it was a mirrored form of the b rune due to pairings indicated in the staveless runes.

Famous quotes containing the word shape:
“How shall my animal
Whose wizard shape I trace in the cavernous skull,
Vessel of abscesses and exultations shell,
Endure burial under the spelling wall....”
—Dylan Thomas (19141953)
“After that it came to my door. Now it lives here.
And of course: it is a soft sound, soft as a seals ear,
that was caught between a shape and a shape and then returned to me.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“The universal moments of child rearing are in fact nothing less than a confrontation with the most basic problems of living in society: a facing through ones children of all the conflicts inherent in human relationships, a clarification of issues that were unresolved in ones own growing up. The experience of child rearing not only can strengthen one as an individual but also presents the opportunity to shape human relationships of the future.”
—Elaine Heffner (20th century)
