The State Protection Group (SPG) is part of the Specialist Operations division of the New South Wales Police Force, having been established in 1991 to deal with extraordinary policing responses. The SPG directly supports police in high-risk incidents such as sieges with specialised tactical, negotiation, intelligence and command-support services. The unit also provides rescue and bomb disposal support, witness security, armoury services and general security for police and other government institutions.

Famous quotes containing the words state, protection and/or group:

Scholars who become politicians are usually assigned the comic role of having to be the good conscience of state policy.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

Take away from the courts, if it could be taken away, the power to issue injunctions in labor disputes, and it would create a privileged class among the laborers and save the lawless among their number from a most needful remedy available to all men for the protection of their business interests against unlawful invasion.... The secondary boycott is an instrument of tyranny, and ought not to be made legitimate.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

For me, as a beginning novelist, all other living writers form a control group for whom the world is a placebo.
    Nicholson Baker (b. 1957)
