Originally published for DOS, the game was ported to the Amiga and Apple Macintosh platforms by MicroMagic, Inc. in 1991. An unofficial sequel, Protostar, was published in 1993.
In November 2011, Electronic Arts re-released a compilation of both Starflight games through GOG.com.
