Star Trek Spin-off Fiction - The Animated Series

The Animated Series

From 1973–1974, NBC aired 22 half-hour episodes of animated adventures of the Enterprise crew. In addition to reuniting the regular cast of the original series (with the exception of Walter Koenig), it also featured the reappearance of popular guest characters, including Harry Mudd and Cyrano Jones. It has been suggested by fans that these stories took place during the fourth and fifth year of Kirk's original "five-year mission."

In later years, at the request of creator Gene Roddenberry, this series was deemed not to be officially recognized as canon by Paramount. Despite this, some elements which originated in the animated series have been used in subsequent stories, most notably the details of Spock's childhood and Vulcan culture revealed in the episode "Yesteryear", which were alluded to in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Unification", in the Star Trek: The Original Series remastered episode "Amok Time", and in Star Trek: Enterprise. Also, characters such as Arex and M'Ress have appeared regularly in Star Trek comics and novels.

Autobiography is only to be trusted when it reveals something disgraceful. A man who gives a good account of himself is probably lying, since any life when viewed from the inside is simply a series of defeats.
