Star Craft: Brood War Professional Competition - Transition To StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Transition To StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Despite the release of StarCraft II, KeSPA, OGN and MBC Game decided to stick with Brood War and not transition to the newer game. However with declining interest in the Brood War scene, as evident by the closure of MBC Game, KeSPA and OGN eventually came into talks with Blizzard and GomTV for broadcasting rights of StarCraft II. After discussions and negotiations were complete, it was announced that the SK Planet Proleague season would be a hybrid tournament featuring both Brood War and StarCraft II.

Brood War professional competition was eventually phased out entirely in Proleagues as StarCraft II has a larger non-Korean audience, although fan interest in the game continues. Brood War tournaments with cash prizes continue to be run, albeit with significantly smaller prize pools.

Famous quotes containing the words transition, wings and/or liberty:

There is not any present moment that is unconnected with some future one. The life of every man is a continued chain of incidents, each link of which hangs upon the former. The transition from cause to effect, from event to event, is often carried on by secret steps, which our foresight cannot divine, and our sagacity is unable to trace. Evil may at some future period bring forth good; and good may bring forth evil, both equally unexpected.
    Joseph Addison (1672–1719)

It is vain to expect virtue from women till they are, in some degree, independent of men ... Whilst they are absolutely dependent on their husbands they will be cunning, mean, and selfish, and the men who can be gratified by the fawning fondness of spaniel-like affection, have not much delicacy, for love is not to be bought, in any sense of the words, its silken wings are instantly shrivelled up when any thing beside a return in kind is sought.
    Mary Wollstonecraft (1759–1797)

Trusting as we did to the virtue of the people, the real people, not the politicians and demagogues, we passed through the most responsible and trying scenes, sustained by the bone and sinew of the nation, the laborers of the land, where alone, in these days of Bank rule, and ragocrat corruption, real virtue and love of liberty is to be found.
    Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)
