His Family's Continuing Rowing Legacy: Back To The Future

In 2007, Stanley's great-great-granddaughter, Rebecca Muttlebury of Plymouth, was a guest of the Cambridge University Boat Club at the 153rd Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race. It was a momentous occasion for a young member of a very old family, especially as Cambridge won that day. The conditions were perfectly bright and sunny, yet included a cool wind ideal for rowing. Famous quotes containing the words family, continuing and/or future:

The seven deadly sins: Want of money, bad health, bad temper, chastity, family ties, knowing that you know things, and believing in the Christian religion.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)

If the oarsmen of a fast-moving ship suddenly cease to row, the suspension of the driving force of the oars doesn’t prevent the vessel from continuing to move on its course. And with a speech it is much the same. After he has finished reciting the document, the speaker will still be able to maintain the same tone without a break, borrowing its momentum and impulse from the passage he has just read out.
    Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 B.C)

The future of America may or may not bring forth a black President, a woman President, a Jewish President, but it most certainly always will have a suburban President. A President whose senses have been defined by the suburbs, where lakes and public baths mutate into back yards and freeways, where walking means driving, where talking means telephoning, where watching means TV, and where living means real, imitation life.
    Arthur Kroker (b. 1945)
