Stanford Hospital and Clinics - Data Breach

Data Breach

After a vendor’s electronic file that included certain Stanford Hospital & Clinics patient information was discovered on a web site on August 22, 2011, it was removed the next day and SHC began an aggressive investigation.

A $20 million dollar lawsuit was filed against Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Multi-Specialty Collection Services LLC, for the data breach that had the medical records of 20,000 patients on commercial website for a year. Stanford Hospitals & Clinics has severed all connections with this contractor and will "vigorously defend" itself.

Famous quotes containing the words data and/or breach:

Mental health data from the 1950’s on middle-aged women showed them to be a particularly distressed group, vulnerable to depression and feelings of uselessness. This isn’t surprising. If society tells you that your main role is to be attractive to men and you are getting crow’s feet, and to be a mother to children and yours are leaving home, no wonder you are distressed.
    Grace Baruch (20th century)

But to my mind, though I am native here
And to the manner born, it is a custom
More honored in the breach than the observance.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
