Stage Monitor System
Stage monitor systems are speakers on stage pointing towards the performers to help them hear themselves. Monitor speakers are useful when amplified instruments are used with acoustic instruments and voice. Monitor speakers typically have their own power amplifier(s) and equalizers. They are driven by a separate mix from the main or front of house system. This mix typically highlights the vocals and acoustic instruments so they can be heard over the electronic instruments and drums. The collection of monitor speakers, amplifiers, equalizers and monitor mixer if used is called the stage monitor system or simply monitors. The British use the term foldback or foldback speakers.

Famous quotes containing the words stage, monitor and/or system:
“It is a mass language only in the same sense that its baseball slang is born of baseball players. That is, it is a language which is being molded by writers to do delicate things and yet be within the grasp of superficially educated people. It is not a natural growth, much as its proletarian writers would like to think so. But compared with it at its best, English has reached the Alexandrian stage of formalism and decay.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
“It is indeed typical that you Earth people refuse to believe in the superiority of any world but your own. Children looking into a magnifying glass, imagining the image you see is the image of your true size.”
—Franklin Coen. Joseph Newman. The Monitor (Douglas Spencer)
“... in America ... children are instructed in the virtues of the system they live under, as though history had achieved a happy ending in American civics.”
—Mary McCarthy (19121989)
