Similarities To The Play
The movie has almost nothing to do with the play, except in a few character names, such as Kay Hamilton, Jean Maitland, and Terry Randall, Linda Shaw, and Judith Canfield. In the play, Terry Randall is from a rural family whose father is a country doctor, and Jean Maitland is actually a shallow girl who becomes a movie star. However, Kay Hamilton does commit suicide, but for completely different reasons and not on an opening night.

Famous quotes containing the words similarities and/or play:
“One internationally known twin researcher sees similarities between twins relationships and those of couple who have been married a long time. Fifteen-year-old twins, as well as spouses approaching their fortieth anniversary, each know their partners likes, dislikes, habits, and idiosyncracies as well as they know their own.”
—Pamela Patrick Novotny (20th century)
“Why dont you put something on the phonograph, a low-down mean blue. Play it over and over again until you crack it and get sick of it and then go back to work. I do it all the time.”
—Robert Rossen (19081966)
