Stade Gilbert Brutus - Expansion

Expansion

Prior to 2007 the Stade Gilbert Brutus could only hold a total of 4,200 individuals and contained 900 seats; this was deemed inadequate for the Catalans Dragons, so the Dragons decided upon using the Stade Aimé Giral for 2006. It had always been the Catalan clubs plan to use Gilbert Brutus as their home ground prior to gaining admission into Super League and so construction to the stadium began in 2006 with the aim of bringing the Stadium to a total capacity of 14,000.

Whilst the Catalans Dragons were playing at the alternative stadium, the first phase of reconstruction started at their official ground. This first stage included the construction of two covered, all-seater stands, one of which featuring hospitality suites. By the end of the 2006 season, the reconstruction was finished, and Catalans moved back into the stadium for the 2007 season. Further construction is planned to begin in February 2010, bringing the Stade Gilbert Brutus to a total capacity of between 11,500 and 13,000, with three all-seater stands. Development of a fourth stand is unlikely given the ground's proximity to several council buildings at that side of the field.

Famous quotes containing the word expansion:

The fundamental steps of expansion that will open a person, over time, to the full flowering of his or her individuality are the same for both genders. But men and women are rarely in the same place struggling with the same questions at the same age.
    Gail Sheehy (20th century)

Artistic genius is an expansion of monkey imitativeness.
    W. Winwood Reade (1838–1875)

We are caught up Mr. Perry on a great wave whether we will or no, a great wave of expansion and progress. All these mechanical inventions—telephones, electricity, steel bridges, horseless vehicles—they are all leading somewhere. It’s up to us to be on the inside in the forefront of progress.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)
