Background

St. John's Preparatory was established in 1870 by the Vincentian Fathers and is affiliated with St. John's University. St.John's Preparatory is commonly referred to as St. John's Prep or just St. John's. The original St. John's Prep was all-boys, located in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn on Lewis and Hart, and closed in 1972 and merged into Mater Christi High School, a coeducational HS.
