College Spirit and Sport
College Colours are royal blue and white, and the playing uniform for sports is the traditional striped rugby top with the 'Vatican V' logo. The 'hellfish' is a symbol held dear to the hearts of Fishermen and Fisherwomen. Whilst being the smallest of the three residential colleges in Hobart, St John Fisher College's presence can still be felt on the sporting fields. But not really. Fisher's sports teams are disappointing year after year, losing almost every sport they enter. Sports played and lost include Rugby, Australian Rules Football, Soccer, Netball, Softball, Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, Table Tennis, and Volleyball. St John Fisher College claimed the tennis title in 2011, along with the girls netball.

Famous quotes containing the words college, spirit and/or sport:
“The logical English train a scholar as they train an engineer. Oxford is Greek factory, as Wilton mills weave carpet, and Sheffield grinds steel. They know the use of a tutor, as they know the use of a horse; and they draw the greatest amount of benefit from both. The reading men are kept by hard walking, hard riding, and measured eating and drinking, at the top of their condition, and two days before the examination, do not work but lounge, ride, or run, to be fresh on the college doomsday.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
—Bible: New Testament, 2 Corinthians 3:4-6.
“Americans living in Latin American countries are often more snobbish than the Latins themselves. The typical American has quite a bit of money by Latin American standards, and he rarely sees a countryman who doesnt. An American businessman who would think nothing of being seen in a sport shirt on the streets of his home town will be shocked and offended at a suggestion that he appear in Rio de Janeiro, for instance, in anything but a coat and tie.”
—Hunter S. Thompson (b. 1939)
