St. James Middle School - Core Academic Classes

Core Academic Classes

Academic classes meet for a semester long, but usually stay the same for the whole year. There are four academic classes scheduled each day for a student, in the subjects English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science.

As of 2008, each academic grade level is departmentalized. Students are put in classes based on scheduling and academic level, among other factors. Accelerated, as well as remedial, classes are available. Each academic class is seventy minutes each day.

Students in their English classes have an opportunity to take a course of the grade above them, one of which provide high school credit. Math students can take Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. Algebra and Geometry provide high school credit.

Famous quotes containing the words core, academic and/or classes:

The ideal of men and women sharing equally in parenting and working is a vision still. What would it be like if women and men were less different from each other, if our worlds were not so foreign? A male friend who shares daily parenting told me that he knows at his very core what his wife’s loving for their daughter feels like, and that this knowing creates a stronger bond between them.
—Anonymous Mother. Ourselves and Our Children, by Boston Women’s Health Book Collective, ch. 6 (1978)

An academic dialect is perfected when its terms are hard to understand and refer only to one another.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

Of all classes the rich are the most noticed and the least studied.
    John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)
