Famous quotes containing the words gall, gospel and/or book:

Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs,
Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers’ eyes,
Being vexed, a sea nourished with lovers’ tears.
What is it else? A madness most discreet,
A choking gall and a preserving sweet.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Love is both Creator’s and Saviour’s gospel to mankind; a volume bound in rose-leaves, clasped with violets, and by the beaks of humming-birds printed with peach-juice on the leaves of lilies.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

Film music should have the same relationship to the film drama that somebody’s piano playing in my living room has to the book I am reading.
    Igor Stravinsky (1882–1971)
