St. Finian's Primary School was a Roman Catholic primary school located in the Falls Road area of West Belfast. It was run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. In view of its high educational standards it attracted pupils not only from the Falls Road but other Catholic districts in Belfast.

Due to falling student numbers the school closed in the 1980s. Former pupils include:

  • Professor John Loughlin Fellow of St Edmund's College, University of Cambridge and formerly Professor of European Politics at Cardiff University
  • Gerry Adams
  • Gerry Kelly
  • James Joseph Magennis (VC)

Famous quotes containing the words primary school, primary and/or school:

Parental attitudes have greater correlation with pupil achievement than material home circumstances or variations in school and classroom organization, instructional materials, and particular teaching practices.
—Children and Their Primary Schools, vol. 1, ch. 3, Central Advisory Council for Education, London (1967)

Anyone who has obeyed nature by transmitting a piece of gossip experiences the explosive relief that accompanies the satisfying of a primary need.
    Primo Levi (1919–1987)

Dissonance between family and school, therefore, is not only inevitable in a changing society; it also helps to make children more malleable and responsive to a changing world. By the same token, one could say that absolute homogeneity between family and school would reflect a static, authoritarian society and discourage creative, adaptive development in children.
    Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
