St Crispin Street Fair

The St Crispin Street Fair was an annual fun fair held in town centre streets of Northampton, England organised by the Northampton Borough Council.

It took place from 1993 until 2004. Over 100 amusement rides operated from 10:30am to 10:30pm on Monday and Tuesday of the October half-term school holiday.

Attractions were located in Abington Street, Drapery, Gold Street, Mercer's Row and Wood Hill as well as the market square.

The fair was cancelled by the council after complaints from local traders and shoppers about congestion, noise and diesel smoke pollution from the rides.

The fair will be held for the first time in 8 years from Sunday, October 28 - Tuesday 30 October 2012. Shop owners have raised concerns about how the new fair could affect their business during Halloween weekend.

Famous quotes containing the words street and/or fair:

The invention of photography provided a radically new picture-making process—a process based not on synthesis but on selection. The difference was a basic one. Paintings were made—constructed from a storehouse of traditional schemes and skills and attitudes—but photographs, as the man on the street put, were taken.
    Jean Szarkowski (b. 1925)

The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Bible: New Testament Jesus, in Matthew, 16:1-3.
