St Augustine of Canterbury Roman Catholic High School (St Helens) - Academics

Academics

The school is a voluntary aided comprehensive school.

There are currently a wide ranch of subjects to choose from once a pupil reaches year 10, these include History, Modern Languages, Art, Drama, Geography, Health and Social Care and Leisure and Tourism. Pupils will choose 3 subjects to follow their core courses (English, Maths, Science, ICT, RE, PSHE and Citizenship).

The school uses a housing system, akin to most other schools in the UK. Each house is named after a Catholic charity: Nugent (White), L'Arche (Yellow), SVP (Green) and CAFOD (Red).

On the last day before half term, St Augustine's received a framed certificate from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust to acknowledge their achievement in consistently improving 5+A*-C results from 2006-2009.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)
