St. Alban's Anglican Church (Ottawa) - Recent History

Recent History

On 16 February 2008, the congregation of St. Albans voted to request alternative episcopal oversight from the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone, joining the Anglican Network in Canada. In 2010, the parish of St. Albans (in partnership with her sister church, St. George's) entered into negotiations with the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa regarding the buildings and assets of both parishes. In February, 2011, the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa and parishes of St. Albans and St. George's came to a without prejudice agreement. Under that agreement, the parish of St. Albans would relocate and would change its name, and the parish of St. George's would retain their building and change their name. The old parish of St. Albans is now known as the Church of the Messiah, part of the Anglican Church in North America. The Anglican Diocese of Ottawa regained possession of the building and name of St. Albans church on July 1, 2011.

169 Stewart Street was the manse for the church originally, which housed the clergy and pastor for the church.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Yet poetry, though the last and finest result, is a natural fruit. As naturally as the oak bears an acorn, and the vine a gourd, man bears a poem, either spoken or done. It is the chief and most memorable success, for history is but a prose narrative of poetic deeds.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

... in a history of spiritual rupture, a social compact built on fantasy and collective secrets, poetry becomes more necessary than ever: it keeps the underground aquifers flowing; it is the liquid voice that can wear through stone.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
