SSN Department of Computer Science and Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was established in the year 1996.

Besides fulfilling the requirements of the syllabus prescribed by the University, the program offers students the opportunity to work on diverse hardware and software platforms.

The Department, accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditation) in the year 2003, has organized three AICTE-ISTE Short Term Training Programmes, funded by the AICTE and three Faculty Development Programmes sponsored by Anna University as well as one International Conference with all the departments of SSN College of Engineering. It has organized many symposia, guest lectures and CSI and ISTE student chapters. The department is also instrumental in developing and supplying open source software. Every year, many students from the Computer Science department join the joint Masters program offered by Carnegie Mellon University and SSN College of Engineering. This department is presently headed by Dr. Chitra Babu.

Famous quotes containing the words department, computer, science and/or engineering:

I believe in women; and in their right to their own best possibilities in every department of life. I believe that the methods of dress practiced among women are a marked hindrance to the realization of these possibilities, and should be scorned or persuaded out of society.
    Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (1844–1911)

The analogy between the mind and a computer fails for many reasons. The brain is constructed by principles that assure diversity and degeneracy. Unlike a computer, it has no replicative memory. It is historical and value driven. It forms categories by internal criteria and by constraints acting at many scales, not by means of a syntactically constructed program. The world with which the brain interacts is not unequivocally made up of classical categories.
    Gerald M. Edelman (b. 1928)

The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.
    Albert Einstein (1879–1955)

Mining today is an affair of mathematics, of finance, of the latest in engineering skill. Cautious men behind polished desks in San Francisco figure out in advance the amount of metal to a cubic yard, the number of yards washed a day, the cost of each operation. They have no need of grubstakes.
Merle Colby, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
