Squires Gate Railway Station

Squires Gate railway station serves the Squires Gate area of the popular seaside resort of Blackpool, Lancashire, England. It lies on the Blackpool South to Colne line and is the nearest station to Blackpool International Airport. Most trains travel from Blackpool South to Colne via Preston.

Between 1865 and 1872, Stony Hill railway station was located in the same area.

Squires Gate is located about 200 metres (660 ft) from Starr Gate tram stop on the Blackpool Tramway.

The station may be renamed Blackpool International Station at some point, along with the provision of direct and flat surface access from the station to the airport.

Famous quotes containing the words gate, railway and/or station:

    Hark, hark, the lark at heaven’s gate sings,
    And Phoebus’ gins arise,
    His steeds to water at those springs
    On chaliced flowers that lies;
    And winking Mary-buds begin to ope their golden eyes;
    With every thing that pretty is, my lady sweet, arise;
    Arise, arise!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

    With boys you always know where you stand. Right in the path of a hurricane. It’s all there. The fruit flies hovering over their waste can, the hamster trying to escape to cleaner air, the bedrooms decorated in Early Bus Station Restroom.
    Erma Bombeck (20th century)
