Squalicum High School - History

History

Squalicum opened in September, 1998 as part of a project titled "High Schools of the Future." The school was designed with three administrative "houses" - Mountain, Bay and Sky - which have views of Mount Baker, Bellingham Bay and open scenery, respectively. Built on a wetland, the building had to deal with a number of environmental concerns. Squalicum absorbed the students of Bellingham High School for two years while the latter was being remodeled. Squalicum High School mission statement is for the community that exists to promote the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of its students which, in turn, will allow them to be successful in a diverse and changing world.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Gossip is charming! History is merely gossip. But scandal is gossip made tedious by morality.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

When the history of guilt is written, parents who refuse their children money will be right up there in the Top Ten.
    Erma Brombeck (20th century)

It would be naive to think that peace and justice can be achieved easily. No set of rules or study of history will automatically resolve the problems.... However, with faith and perseverance,... complex problems in the past have been resolved in our search for justice and peace. They can be resolved in the future, provided, of course, that we can think of five new ways to measure the height of a tall building by using a barometer.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
