Sport in Milton Keynes - Speedway

Speedway

Until the late 1990s, Speedway had been staged at Milton Keynes at two venues (Milton Keynes Stadium at Ashland, and at Elfield Park). The local team, known as The Knights, started out at the Ashland Greyhound Stadium, and then moved to a venue known as Elfield Park. However, both sites have closed: the former is now a housing district and the latter is a brownfield site with plans announced by the leaseholders of National Bowl to redevelop it (which have yet to materialise).

Famous quotes containing the word speedway:

The improved American highway system ... isolated the American-in-transit. On his speedway ... he had no contact with the towns which he by-passed. If he stopped for food or gas, he was served no local fare or local fuel, but had one of Howard Johnson’s nationally branded ice cream flavors, and so many gallons of Exxon. This vast ocean of superhighways was nearly as free of culture as the sea traversed by the Mayflower Pilgrims.
    Daniel J. Boorstin (b. 1914)
