Spinning Around - Influence

Influence

I happened to write "Spinning Around," that I gave to Kylie Minogue. She hadn't done a record in seven years and was looking for a great dance number. It literally re-launched her career, and when all these kids came into audition for Pop Idol, they sang "Spinning Around."

—Paula Abdul on the song, to Ocala Star-Banner.

Due to the title of the song it has been used regularly in reference to politics, for example BBC Radio 5 Live's coverage of the 2000 US presidential election and Andrew Marr's news report on Tony Blair's resignation speech.

Famous quotes containing the word influence:

Life is made too easy. Mankind’s moral fibre is giving way under the softening influence of luxury.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)

I wish to reiterate all the reasons which [my predecessor] has presented in favor of the policy of maintaining a strong navy as the best conservator of our peace with other nations and the best means of securing respect for the assertion of our rights of the defense of our interests, and the exercise of our influence in international matters.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

They tell us that women can bring better things to pass by indirect influence. Try to persuade any man that he will have more weight, more influence, if he gives up his vote, allies himself with no party and relies on influence to achieve his ends! By all means let us use to the utmost whatever influence we have, but in all justice do not ask us to be content with this.
Mrs. William C. Gannett, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 5, ch. 8, by Ida Husted Harper (1922)
