Special Reaction Unit

The Special Reaction Unit is a part of the Presidential Security Group. The unit was organized in 1988 after the Counter-terrorist company ("E" Company)of the Presidential Guards and the 14th Scout Ranger Company were trained by a detachment of British Army Training Team (BATT). The first commanding officer of SRU was Capt. Jessie Dellosa, (PMA '79). Three Army and one Air Force officers were also assigned to SRU. The unit's initial organization was based on the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT)and Immediate Reaction Platoon (IRP) of the British SAS. Though most of the unit's operational deployment were officer led (O-1 to O-3),non-commissioned officers were often given greater responsibilities during their deployments. They were highly trained in CQB, MOUT, Hostage Rescue and counter-insurgency operation using the Scout Ranger type of operation. The unit's initial weaponry are HK MP5A3, Colt 1911 cal. 45 pistol, UZI submachine gun, Benelli M1 shotguns, M16A1, M14, M60 GPMG, LAW and French made anti-tank missile. SRU successfully led a counter-attack against rebel soldiers that were closing in the Presidential Palace (Malacanang)during the December 1989 coup de etat. The unit's motto is "Swift Aggression".

The Special Reaction Unit is sometimes mistaken as the Special Reaction Group.

Famous quotes containing the words special, reaction and/or unit:

The books may say that nine-month-olds crawl, say their first words, and are afraid of strangers. Your exuberantly concrete and special nine-month-old hasn’t read them. She may be walking already, not saying a word and smiling gleefully at every stranger she sees. . . . You can support her best by helping her learn what she’s trying to learn, not what the books say a typical child ought to be learning.
    Amy Laura Dombro (20th century)

Children, randomly at first, hit upon something sooner or later that is their mother’s and/or father’s Achilles’ heel, a kind of behavior that especially upsets, offends, irritates or embarrasses them. One parent dislikes name-calling, another teasing...another bathroom jokes. For the parents, this behavior my have ties back to their childhood, many have been something not allowed, forbidden, and when it appears in the child, it causes high-voltage reaction in the parent.
    Ellen Galinsky (20th century)

During the Suffragette revolt of 1913 I ... [urged] that what was needed was not the vote, but a constitutional amendment enacting that all representative bodies shall consist of women and men in equal numbers, whether elected or nominated or coopted or registered or picked up in the street like a coroner’s jury. In the case of elected bodies the only way of effecting this is by the Coupled Vote. The representative unit must not be a man or a woman but a man and a woman.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
