Special Cases of Apollonius' Problem - Rules of Euclidean Constructions

Rules of Euclidean Constructions

In Euclidean constructions, five operations are allowed:

  1. Draw a line through two points
  2. Draw a circle through a point with a given center
  3. Find the intersection point of two lines
  4. Find the intersection points of two circles
  5. Find the intersection points of a line and a circle

The initial elements in a geometric construction are called the "givens", such as a given point, a given line or a given circle.

Famous quotes containing the words rules of and/or rules:

    Those rules of old discovered, not devised,
    Are Nature sill, but Nature methodized;
    Nature, like liberty, is but restrained
    By the same laws which first herself ordained.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)

    It’s not wise to violate rules until you know how to observe them.
