Spatial Query - Types of Queries

Types of Queries

The function names for queries differ across geodatabases. The following list contains commonly used functions built into PostGIS, a free geodatabase which is a PostgreSQL extension (the term 'geometry' refers to a point, line, box or other two or three dimensional shape):

Function prototype: functionName (parameter(s)) : return type

  • Distance(geometry, geometry) : number
  • Equals(geometry, geometry) : boolean
  • Disjoint(geometry, geometry) : boolean
  • Intersects(geometry, geometry) : boolean
  • Touches(geometry, geometry) : boolean
  • Crosses(geometry, geometry) : boolean
  • Overlaps(geometry, geometry) : boolean
  • Contains(geometry, geometry) : boolean
  • Length(geometry) : number
  • Area(geometry) : number
  • Centroid(geometry) : geometry

Famous quotes containing the words types of, types and/or queries:

... there are two types of happiness and I have chosen that of the murderers. For I am happy. There was a time when I thought I had reached the limit of distress. Beyond that limit, there is a sterile and magnificent happiness.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

Science is intimately integrated with the whole social structure and cultural tradition. They mutually support one other—only in certain types of society can science flourish, and conversely without a continuous and healthy development and application of science such a society cannot function properly.
    Talcott Parsons (1902–1979)

All I can say, in answer to this kind queries [of friends] is that I have not the distemper called the Plague; but that I have all the plagues of old age, and of a shattered carcase.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)
