Academics
SwCC offers associate's and bachelor's degrees. Two years of study in most fields are offered outside of those involving preparation for full-time ministry. Many junior- and senior-level courses have been offered in recent years, which eventually lead to the school's first bachelor's degree graduates in 1984 and online courses at the present. A concerted effort has been made by the board of trustees not to allow the college's somewhat-limited resources to be spread too thinly.
Southwestern's associate level graduates typically earn the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree; the bachelor level graduates typically earn the Bachelor of Science degree. Dr. Jack Evans, Sr. is the current college president. He has held this position since 1967 and is believed to be the longest-serving college president in the nation.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:
“Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?”
—Fred G. Gosman (20th century)
“Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain above the fray only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.”
—Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
