South Zeal

South Zeal is a village on Dartmoor, in Devon, UK.

It has a Church of England chapel and a Methodist chapel. The church is situated in the smaller South Tawton village, down the road, for which the parish is named. The differences have their basis in history when South Tawton was a manor and South Zeal was a village in that manor, where the manor hall was situated.

Famous quotes containing the words south and/or zeal:

The cloud was so dark that it needed all the bright lights that could be turned upon it. But for four years there was a contagion of nobility in the land, and the best blood North and South poured itself out a libation to propitiate the deities of Truth and Justice. The great sin of slavery was washed out, but at what a cost!
    M. E. W. Sherwood (1826–1903)

This declared indifference, but as I must think, covert real zeal for the spread of slavery, I can not but hate. I hate it because of the monstrous injustice of slavery itself. I hate it because it deprives our republican example of its just influence in the world ... and especially because it forces so many really good men amongst ourselves into an open war with the very fundamental principles of civil liberty.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
