South West Peninsula League

The South West Peninsula League is a league of football clubs in England, which was formed in 2007 from the merger of the Devon County League and the South Western League. The league is restricted to clubs based in Cornwall and Devon.

The league consists of a Premier Division of 19 clubs, which is ranked at Step 6 in the National League System, and two divisions at Step 7 being Division One West and Division One East. One club from each of the Division One leagues can be promoted and the bottom two clubs in the Premier Division can be relegated. One club from the Premier Division can apply for promotion to the Western League Premier Division, with Buckland Athletic promoted after finishing runner-up in 2012.

The primary feeder leagues for Division One West are the Cornwall Combination, East Cornwall and for Division One East being the South Devon and the Devon & Exeter Leagues. The North Devon League and Plymouth & West Devon Combination are officially feeder leagues, however no clubs have applied to date from these competitions.

The league's principal sponsor is Carlsberg, and the League Cup competition is sponsored by Westward Investment Management, with the cup being named the Throgmorton Cup.

Famous quotes containing the words south, west and/or league:

The South is very beautiful but its beauty makes one sad because the lives that people live here, and have lived here, are so ugly.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)

I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now,
    I shall be released.
Bob Dylan [Robert Allen Zimmerman] (b. 1941)

We’re the victims of a disease called social prejudice, my child. These dear ladies of the law and order league are scouring out the dregs of the town. C’mon be a glorified wreck like me.
    Dudley Nichols (1895–1960)
