South Australian Amateur Football League

The South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) is an Australian rules football competition based in Adelaide, South Australia. Comprising sixty-seven member clubs playing over one hundred and ten matches per week, the SAAFL is one of Australia's largest and strongest Australian rules football associations.

The league currently provides competition across 7 Senior divisions with Reserves grades, accompanied by a separate C grade competition, all from Divisions 1 to 7. There are also three under 18 divisions: blue, red and yellow divided by area.

Following the promotion of Division 2 premiers Eastern Park and finalists PHOS Camden, and relegation of Payneham NU and Port District from Division 1, the Division 1 teams for the 2011 season will be Broadview, Eastern Park, Gaza, Gepps Cross, Goodwood Saints, Henley, PHOS Camden, Sacred Heart OC, Salisbury North and Tea Tree Gully. The 2010 premiers were Henley, defeating Sacred Heart OC, 11.6 (72) to 7.5 (47) on 18 September at Thebarton Oval. The Division 1 Reserves premiers were Sacred Heart OC, who went through their season undefeated.

Famous quotes containing the words south, australian, amateur, football and/or league:

The cloud was so dark that it needed all the bright lights that could be turned upon it. But for four years there was a contagion of nobility in the land, and the best blood North and South poured itself out a libation to propitiate the deities of Truth and Justice. The great sin of slavery was washed out, but at what a cost!
    M. E. W. Sherwood (1826–1903)

The Australian mind, I can state with authority, is easily boggled.
    Charles Osborne (b. 1927)

I have been reporting club meetings for four years and I am tired of hearing reviews of the books I was brought up on. I am tired of amateur performances at occasions announced to be for purposes either of enjoyment or improvement. I am tired of suffering under the pretense of acquiring culture. I am tired of hearing the word “culture” used so wantonly. I am tired of essays that let no guilty author escape quotation.
Josephine Woodward, U.S. author. As quoted in Everyone Was Brave, ch. 3, by William L. O’Neill (1969)

In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Liberty’s torch. In football you run over somebody’s face.
    Donald Hall (b. 1928)

Stereotypes fall in the face of humanity. You toodle along, thinking that all gay men wear leather after dark and should never, ever be permitted around a Little League field. And then one day your best friend from college, the one your kids adore, comes out to you.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
