Songs Of A Dead Dreamer (album)

Songs of a Dead Dreamer is an electronica album by DJ Spooky, released on 2 April 1996 (see 1996 in music). It is based on Songs of a Dead Dreamer, the story collection by horror fiction writer Thomas Ligotti. The album was a critical success, though popular acceptance was lukewarm. Widely regarded as one of the first examples of illbient music, Songs of a Dead Dreamer was, at the time, a virtually-unique fusion of electronic music and hip hop.

Famous quotes containing the words songs, dead and/or dreamer:

People fall out of windows, trees tumble down,
Summer is changed to winter, the young grow old
The air is full of children, statues, roofs
And snow. The theatre is spinning round,
Colliding with deaf-mute churches and optical trains.
The most massive sopranos are singing songs of scales.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

I laugh when I think that all of Rome made it a point not to pronounce Drusilla’s name. Because Rome was mistaken for all those years. Love is not enough for me, and I understood that then.... To love someone is to accept to grow old with her. An old Drusilla is far worse than a dead one.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

Dream is not a revelation. If a dream affords the dreamer some light on himself, it is not the person with closed eyes who makes the discovery but the person with open eyes lucid enough to fit thoughts together. Dream—a scintillating mirage surrounded by shadows—is essentially poetry.
    Michel Leiris (1901–1990)
