Personality
At first, Gohan is polite, timid and easily scared. Only after Piccolo's training does Gohan start to acquire his father's love of adventure and freedom. While he loves martial arts, he never quite inherits the love of fighting Goku has; instead he only fights when the need to protect his friends and loved ones arises.
Being the son of Goku, Gohan inherited great powers of his own. Due to his peaceful nature, these powers remain bottled up until he is angered, as is seen in his fights with Garlic Jr, Vegeta and Frieza. Gohan gained the ability to readily access this hidden power during his fight with Cell.

Famous quotes containing the word personality:
“The child begins life as a pleasure-seeking animal; his infantile personality is organized around his own appetites and his own body. In the course of his rearing the goal of exclusive pleasure seeking must be modified drastically, the fundamental urges must be subject to the dictates of conscience and society, urges must be capable of postponement and in some instances of renunciation completely.”
—Selma H. Fraiberg (20th century)
“Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality. But, of course, only those who have personality and emotions know what it means to want to escape from these things.”
—T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
“Unable to create a meaningful life for itself, the personality takes its own revenge: from the lower depths comes a regressive form of spontaneity: raw animality forms a counterpoise to the meaningless stimuli and the vicarious life to which the ordinary man is conditioned. Getting spiritual nourishment from this chaos of events, sensations, and devious interpretations is the equivalent of trying to pick through a garbage pile for food.”
—Lewis Mumford (18951990)
