Solar Sailor Holdings
Solar Sailor Holdings Limited is an Australian company that supplies marine transportation technology. Solar Sailor was founded by Robert Dane in 1999, and the current chairman is Bob Hawke. The BBC television series Tomorrow's World described Solar Sailor as "possibly the greatest evolution in boats since the advent of steam". The company develops and specializes in two forms of technology: hybrid marine power (HMP), and solar sails.
The company allows naval architects and vessel builders to use its patented solar sails and hybrid marine power system designs in vessels of their own design, and licences its technology and intellectual property world wide. The technology is applicable to all types of marine vessels, including commercial ferries, large ships, and recreational vessels.
A range of unmanned drones is being developed for oceanography, surveillance, data gathering, security and military uses, which are autonomous and self-sustaining, generate their own electrical power, are primarily wind powered, and have almost limitless endurance such that 2 year at-sea periods are anticipated.

Famous quotes containing the words solar, sailor and/or holdings:
“Senta: These boats, sir, what are they for?
Hamar: They are solar boats for Pharaoh to use after his death. Theyre the means by which Pharaoh will journey across the skies with the sun, with the god Horus. Each day they will sail from east to west, and each night Pharaoh will return to the east by the river which runs underneath the earth.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
“The soger frae the wars returns,
The sailor frae the main,
But I hae parted frae my Love,
Never to meet again, my dear,
Never to meet again.”
—Robert Burns (17591796)
“Polarized light showed the secret architecture of bodies; and when the second-sight of the mind is opened, now one color or form or gesture, and now another, has a pungency, as if a more interior ray had been emitted, disclosing its deep holdings in the frame of things.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
