Solar Electric Light Fund
The Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) is an international development aid organization working to end global poverty by bringing solar power and Internet access to the world's poorest people in remote rural areas. SELF’s installations provide electricity for homes, clinics, schools, village water pumps, vaccine refrigerators, drip irrigation farming and micro-enterprise centers to improve the health, education, food supply and job opportunities for the two billion people living in energy poverty. SELF provides training in the set-up, installation and maintenance of the solar electric and wireless systems to enable communities to remain self-reliant.
SELF is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity.

Famous quotes containing the words solar, electric, light and/or fund:
“The solar system has no anxiety about its reputation, and the credit of truth and honesty is as safe; nor have I any fear that a skeptical bias can be given by leaning hard on the sides of fate, of practical power, or of trade, which the doctrine of Faith cannot down-weigh.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Wisdom is like electricity. There is no permanently wise man, but men capable of wisdom, who, being put into certain company, or other favorable conditions, become wise for a short time, as glasses rubbed acquire electric power for a while.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“So doth, so is Religion; and this blind-
ness too much light breeds; but unmoved thou
Of force must one, and forcd but one allow;
And the right; ask thy father which is she,
let him ask his; though truth and falsehood be
Near twins, yet truth a little elder is;”
—John Donne (15721631)
“School success is not predicted by a childs fund of facts or a precocious ability to read as much as by emotional and social measures; being self-assured and interested: knowing what kind of behavior is expected and how to rein in the impulse to misbehave; being able to wait, to follow directions, and to turn to teachers for help; and expressing needs while getting along with other children.”
—Daniel Goleman (20th century)
