Society For General Microbiology - Sir Howard Dalton Award For Young Microbiologist of The Year

Sir Howard Dalton Award For Young Microbiologist of The Year

The SGM organises a competition each year in which Ph.D students and postdoctoral researchers who have completed their Ph.D within the last 2 years are nominated to enter based on their performance at oral and poster presentations during recent SGM conferences. All finalists receive one year's free membership of the SGM along with transport costs to and from the conference at which the finals are held. Three cash prizes of £500, £200 and £100 are awarded to the winner and two runners up. The prize was renamed in 2009 in honour of the late Howard Dalton.

Famous quotes containing the words howard, award, young and/or year:

    Doctor, I want you to make it known to your government that it can trust us implicitly, for we do not want any of your territory. We only want your trade.

    ‘Oh beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly,
    Play the Dead March as you carry me along;
    Take me to the green valley, there lay the sod o’er me,
    For I’m a young cowboy and I know I’ve done wrong.
    —Unknown. As I Walked Out in the Streets of Laredo (l. 5–8)

    I have done it again.
    One year in every ten
    I manage it—
