Famous quotes containing the words history, economic and/or importance:
“He wrote in prison, not a History of the World, like Raleigh, but an American book which I think will live longer than that. I do not know of such words, uttered under such circumstances, and so copiously withal, in Roman or English or any history.”

“It does not follow, because our difficulties are stupendous, because there are some souls timorous enough to doubt the validity and effectiveness of our ideals and our system, that we must turn to a state controlled or state directed social or economic system in order to cure our troubles.”
—Herbert Hoover (18741964)
“Whoever deliberately attempts to insure confidentiality with another person is usually in doubt as to whether he inspires that persons confidence in him. One who is sure that he inspires confidence attaches little importance to confidentiality.”
