Small nucleolar RNA psi18S-1377 (also known as snoRNA psi28S-1377) is a non-coding RNA (ncRNA) molecule which functions in the biogenesis (modification) of other small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs). This type of modifiying RNA is located in the nucleolus of the eukaryotic cell which is a major site of snRNA biogenesis. It is known as a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and also often referred to as a 'guide RNA'.
This Drosophila-specific snoRNA is a member of the H/ACA box class of snoRNA and is predicted to be responsible for guiding the modification of uridines 1377 and 1279 to pseudouridine in Drosophila 18S rRNA.
Famous quotes containing the word small:
“Yknow, George, I feel that in a small way were doing something important. Its satisfying a fundamental urge. Its deep in the race for a man to want his own roof and walls and fireplace. And were helping him get those things in our shabby little office.”
—Frances Goodrich (18911984)
