Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative

SFEDI is the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative, a company started and principally funded by the Department of Trade and Industry that worked under contract to the UK government to develop occupational standards for small business managers and advisers, primarily active in the field of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).

SFEDI rebranded in January 2007 and extended its reach with regard to supporting Small Firms. SFEDI now acts as a movement designed to be the 'voice of the small company' in the UK.

Famous quotes containing the words small, firms, enterprise, development and/or initiative:

Adolescence is when girls experience social pressure to put aside their authentic selves and to display only a small portion of their gifts.
    Mary Pipher (20th century)

While waiting to get married, several forms of employment were acceptable. Teaching kindergarten was for those girls who stayed in school four years. The rest were secretaries, typists, file clerks, or receptionists in insurance firms or banks, preferably those owned or run by the family, but respectable enough if the boss was an upstanding Christian member of the community.
    Barbara Howar (b. 1934)

Belonging to a group can provide the child with a variety of resources that an individual friendship often cannot—a sense of collective participation, experience with organizational roles, and group support in the enterprise of growing up. Groups also pose for the child some of the most acute problems of social life—of inclusion and exclusion, conformity and independence.
    Zick Rubin (20th century)

    Sleep hath its own world,
And a wide realm of wild reality.
And dreams in their development have breath,
And tears, and tortures, and the touch of joy.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

I am firmly opposed to the government entering into any business the major purpose of which is competition with our citizens ... for the Federal Government deliberately to go out to build up and expand ... a power and manufacturing business is to break down the initiative and enterprise of the American people; it is the destruction of equality of opportunity amongst our people, it is the negation of the ideals upon which our civilization has been based.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)
