Small Device C Compiler

The Small Device C Compiler (SDCC) is an open source, partially retargetable C compiler for microcontrollers. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License. The package also contains a linker, assembler, simulator and debugger. As of March 2007, SDCC is the only open source C compiler for Intel 8051-compatible microcontrollers. In 2011 the compiler is downloaded on average more than 200 times per day.

The SDCC compiler was used by the FreeRTOS project to port its real-time operating system to the 8051-based Silabs (formerly Cygnal) series of microcontrollers.

Famous quotes containing the words small and/or device:

Fear not, we are of the nature of the lion, and cannot descend to the destruction of mice and such small beasts.
    Elizabeth I (1533–1603)

A bracelet of bright hair about the bone,
Will he not let us alone,
And think that there a loving couple lies
Who thought that this device might be some way
To make their souls, at the last busy day,
Meet at this grave, and make a little stay?
    John Donne (1572–1631)
