Slovakia in The Eurovision Song Contest 1993 - at Kvalifikacija Za Millstreet

At Kvalifikacija Za Millstreet

In the early 1990s Europe went through many political and geographical changes due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the disintegration of Yugoslavia. This caused problems for the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) who didn't want to see the contest expand so rapidly. The EBU's solution was to introduce a one-off contest called Kvalifikacija za Millstreet to help select three additional countries to perform at the 1993 Contest to be held on 15 May.

The independently recognised countries of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia, took part at the Kvalifikacija za Millstreet which was held at the RTV SLO Broadcasting Centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 3 April 1993. Slovakia performed 7th in the running order, following Slovenia. Elán received 50 points for their song and performance, placing 4th, thereby failing to qualify.
