Skyline High School (Utah) - Academics

Academics

Skyline is one of just six schools in Utah to offer the IB Diploma Programme, along with Hillcrest High School, Bountiful High School, West High School, Clearfield Highschool, and Provo High School

Skyline's math team has repeatedly earned recognition at a state and national level. In the 2009 Team Scramble competition, Skyline tied for 13th place nationally, and Skyline placed 14th nationally in the 2009 Ciphering Time Trials competition. In the 2010 Four-by-Four competition, Skyline also placed 14th, and four Skyline students placed 3rd nationally in the Scissors Division. In the 08-09 Mandelbrot Team Play Competition, Skyline tied for 11th place nationally. In the 2010 Utah State Math Contest, Skyline placed first in the 12th grade for the 5A category, and individual Skyline students placed first in 10th grade and first and second in 12th grade.

Skyline garnered much attention in November 2012 for being the first high school in the world to participate in SC’s Student Cluster Competition, in the LittleFe Track. They took home an honorable mention for "coming out of nowhere and taking a significant lead." They competed against other universities, including the University of Utah and Slippery Rock University from Pennsylvania.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
